About the Institute of Islamic Banking, Finance and Economics (IIBFE)

United International University at a Glance
United International University (UIU) is a private university approved by the Peoples Republic of Bangladesh on 2nd June, 2003 and started functioning from the Fall 2003. UIU is also approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh. UIU was established with the generous support and patronage of the United Group, a very successful diversified business group in Bangladesh. The permanent campus of UIU has been built on a plot of 25 bigha land located at the “United City”, Madani Avenue, Badda (2.5 km east of the US Embassy.
Our Mission
The mission of UIU is to create excellent human resources with intellectual, creative, technical, moral and practical skills to serve community, industry and region. We do it by developing integrated, interactive, involved and caring relationships among teachers, students, guardians and employers. The mission of the IIBFE is to produce future leaders, socially responsible business graduates with general and Shri’ah knowledge and to familiarize students with Shari’ah concepts and applications, develop their ability to evaluate public policy through teaching and research, enhance productivity, and foster the intellectual capacity necessary for a successful career path.
Our Vision
The vision of UIU is to become the center of excellence in teaching, learning and research in the South Asian region. In keeping with the vision of UIU, our Bachelor and Masters programs envisions transforming students into capable leaders who can shape innovative economic and business policies with the concept of Islamic and Shari’ah principles guided by highly educated and professional experienced faculty members.
Our Facility
IIBFE is soon to introduce academic as well as various professional certificates and post graduate diploma programs to support the human resource needs of Islamic finance industry in Bangladesh. Both students aspiring careers in Islamic banking and finance as well as working professionals from the industry seeking to advance in their academic qualifications can benefit from the Institute’s cutting edge, international standard programs and offerings. IIBFE office is located at 10th floor of UIU permanent campus room no. 1001.

Scope of Activities
In consonance with the vision and mission, IIBFE will engage with the industry and collaborate with relevant domestic and international institutions and individuals as stakeholders with a focus on the following areas:
- Creating awareness about Islamic principles and values regarding banking/finance, economy and business.
- Providing cutting-edge academic programs and courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels as needed by the Islamic Finance industry.
- Designing and implementing short training programs to enhance the capabilities of governmental and corporate bodies.
- Engaging in research collaboration, locally and internationally, that can help the industry in developing innovative, more compliant and beneficial financial products.
- Offering opportunities for postdoctoal fellowship and international exchange of scholars, such as Fulbright programs.
- Facilitating faculty members of the university to engage in advisory and consulting.
- Conducting research related to fiscal, monetary and financial sector development policies as well as advancing development aspirations of the industry and the country and publishing working papers, reports (and journal, depending on the market needs and resources available).
- Establishing, strengthening and institutionalizing the linkage between the Institute and related programs of the government and government agencies, and other institutions at the national and international levels.
- Ensuring participation of students/researchers in applied research activities.
- Promoting the values of inclusiveness, sustainability, fairness, cooperation and ethics from Islamic perspective.

IIBFE of UIU was established with the mandate to promote and foster research, training, seminar, symposium, workshop and certificate & diploma programs to support the Islamic banking and finance industry. It was officially launched from September 1, 2024.
